Picks for March 27,2022

We've got some major changes to the 401k this week. Mainly, I got another job, and it requires that I work Saturdays. Worst of it, I can't access NYRA Bets, since they blocked such websites But, I can troll Facebook all day. Secondly, we pretty confirmed that weekday betting is a confirmed violation of Rule One. So, rather than losing money all week, we're sticking to weekends. Or it looks like Sunday only....  We did do a couple quick hits at Turfway Park during the week, and that went well. But I tried to blindly make a couple bets yesterday on the Dubai Cup. So, we lost what made. Here's where we are now, and here are today's picks.... THOROUGHBRED 401K: DATE OF INCEPTION:  2/27/22 AMOUNT AT INCEPTION:  $60.00 AMOUNT AT START OF DAY: $108.20 (+80.3%) PICKS:  67-101 (66.3%) TODAY'S PICKS: Aqueduct, 4th Race, Jerry The Nipper, $10 Show  - LOST (4TH) Aqueduct, 5th Race , Everyoneloveslinda, $5 Show  - LOST (5TH) Aqueduct, 6th Race, Easy Shot, $5 Sho...

Working for the Weekend: Our Picks for March, 20, 2022

Hey, no pressure today. We only had a 75% drop in our profits this week. Of course, with a 3 week old fund of only $60 to start, it doesn't take much to drop - or go up. Finally, we did the latter today. Sorry, but I was at my brother's today. Then again, it looks like no one is following this anyway.... THOROUGHBRED 401K: DATE OF INCEPTION:  2/27/22 FUNDS AT UNCEPTION: $60.00 OVERALL: 58-85 (68.2%)  TOTAL AT END OF DAY: $99.10 (+65.2%) TODAY'S PICKS: Oaklawn Park, 4th Race, Melting Snow, Bet $5 to Show  - LOST (4TH) Melted in the stretch. Where We Are, and Our Picks for March, 19th 2022

Thank God, we FINALLY made it to the weekend. We're quickly learning that betting during the week is becoming a losing proposition. We win on weekends, lose during the week. When you go 4-1, and end up with a 20% loss, you get a little discouraged.... But, it's time to make up for some small losses with some bigger wins. Saturdays brings stakes races, which brings better horses with better odds.  Here we go! START OF DAY TOTALS: PICKS:   50-72 OVERALL (69.4%) DATE OF INCEPTION: 2/27/22 VALUE AT INCEPTION: $60.00 VALUE AT END OF DAY:  $99.85 (+66.4%). PICKS: Oaklawn Park, 6th Race, Kingmaker, Bet $5  -LOST (4TH), last minute bet, beaten out by my first thought to bet on. 4 wide into the stretch. Got blocked out, had no answer. Oaklawn Park, 7th race, Tulane Tryst, Bet $5  - WON (2ND), PAID $9.00 (+80%) Oaklawn Park, 8th Race, El Gemar, Bet $5  - WON (3RD), PAID $11.00 (+120%) Oaklawn Park, 9th Race, Thomas Shelby, Bet $10   LOST (4TH). Had his hea...

Happy Friday! We've been taking it on the chin a little bit all week. So our goal is to have a weekday where we don't lose money. If this continues, we'll need to reevaluate, but it's early. Here's where we are: START OF DAY: DATE OF INCEPTION: 2/27/22 ORIGINAL FUNDS: $60.00 PICKS: 46-67 OVERALL (68.7%) VALUE AT START OF DAY: 106.85 (+78.1%) PICKS: Gulfstream Park, 2nd Race, Cozy Cafe , Bet $5  - WON, PAID $7.00  (+40%) Gulfstream Park, 3rd Race, Philipsburg, Bet $5  - WON, PAID $5.25 (+5%) Gulfstream Park, 8th Race, Join the Dots, Bet $5  - WON, PAID $5.25 (+5%) Oaklawn, 4th Race, Jilted Bride, Bet $10  - WON, PAID $10.50 (+5%) Oaklawn, 8th Race, Harvard, Bet $10  - LOST.   Join us today, as we look into our crystal ball, and see what Zoltar has in store for us! The good news is Gulfstream and Fair Grounds are open today, so there is less chance of us violating Rule #1.... We did OK, despite that, but those wrong picks take a lot of wins to make up for it. We even have a horse that hit the board in the Breeders Cup running today. So, here we go! THOROUGHBRED 401K DATE OF INCEPTION: 2/27/22 VALUE AT INCEPTION: $60 VALUE AT START OF DAY: 136.35 (+127.3%) WINS: 39 OF 55 (70.9%).   TODAY'S PICKS: Gulfstream Park, 7th Race, American Heroine, Bet $5 - WON, PAID $6.00 (20%) Fair Grounds, 4th Race, Dallas Volunteer, Bet $10 - LOST.                                               Hoping for Some Magical Picks, Like This Horse.... We had a slightly down day yesterday. Not by much, but it happens. We have stuff to do today, so we're getting our picks out early. The bigger tracks are closed again today, so we're crossing our fingers at Parx again. Stupid Reasons People Bet on Horses...

Bunny's Revenge ???? We're going to try and inject a little humor into the blog here. If this lasts, you'll see we don't take anything seriously. Plus, we have a bit of a 'voice' when we write (I had a political blog about 10-12 years ago), so we're trying to get back into that. Makes reading this a little easier.... If you've done this enough, or just watched people who know nothing about horse racing decide who to pick every Kentucky Derby Day, you know people come up with the craziest reasons for picking a certain horse. I see this every year at the Belmont. Those cigar-smoking Jason Mraz looking kids with the Fedora hat drive me up a wall.... But, they have their opinion, and they help drive up the odds on my horse, and make me more money. Th...

OK, we're back for another day of picks. Even though our streak of ten straight bets came to an end, we had an extremely good day yesterday.  So, we're back. Here Are THE RULES......

Image
As with any discipline, there are specific rules that you must abide by to stay on course. Any deviation from this may get you a quick hit, but in the end, you will lose in the long run...... like most bettors. Don't be cute, do your best to follow the path that I have given you here, and you should be OK.    RULE ONE: DO NOT BET ON SHITTY HORSES Ever hear the saying 'You Get What You Pay For'?  It's true. If a horse is 0-26, skip it, and move on. While it's true that there is some money to be made on every race, it does not mean you need to bet on every race. That will turn you into a crackhead. There are plenty of decent horses to bet on.  It's not exciting to get back 10%, but I got that yesterday on Breeders Cup winner CeCe, and I didn't even need to think about it. It was Tampa Derby Day yesterday. They had five stakes races in a row, and I hit a bet on each of the five. Why, because there is a solid horse in each one. Stick with a winner, and you...

How This All Started..... AKA, Wall Street Kinda Sucks

Image
Hey, whether someone ever read or follows this is irrelevant. This is more of a diary to see day to day if this works, and to learn the mistakes I make along the way..... So, why am I here? Simple. As someone in his early 50's, who got off to a 30 year late start on saving towards retirement, I have some ground to make up. Catching up all the way is impossible, but any ground made up is ground made up..... This all started last year. Sure, I have a 401k that my last (now former) employer had the magnanimity to NOT match (the auto business sucks), but it's pretty small, and it is fully exposed to the whims of the investing public. I did finally manage to save up about triple that amount, where it sat in my bank account, earning NO INTEREST.  After figuring out that I lost about 5-$7000 by doing that, I finally did something. I sat down with a friend who always seemed to do well in the market. I soon signed up with a Vanguard Mutual Fund with $5k, and it went pretty well - for...
